Quote of the Week – January 24, 2016

From the OpenDoorsUSA Website:

Be still, and know that I am God—Psalms 46:10

“One Chinese church leader, who spent 23 years in prison, once said this to Christians who did not face persecution:

‘I was pushed into a cell, but you have to push yourself into one. You have no time to know God. You need to build yourself a cell, so you can do for yourself what persecution did for me—simplify your life and know God.'”

Distractions

Here are the completed notes from the Sunday Morning Service January 17, 2016:

What are your top 5 priorities in life?

What do you actually spend your time and energy doing?

Created with Purpose:

Revelation 4:11b – “Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created”
Relationship with Him (Matthew 22:37) – Love the Lord thy God with your total being
Glorify Him (1 Corinthians 10:31) – Do all to the glory of God
Mission

Mission:

Given by Christ (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:47, 48; John 20:21; Acts 1:8)

Purpose Statement for Corner Stone Baptist Church
Corner Stone Baptist Church exists to glorify God by bringing people into a relationship with Him through the Lord Jesus Christ, to unite them with the local church, to develop them to Christlike maturity, and equip them for their ministry in the home, the church and the world.

Vision:

We draw our vision from our mission
How to carry out our mission

1. Function as a Biblical NT Church both Individually and Corporately

2. God being Glorified through Individual Lives, Our Families, and this Local Church

  • Corner Stone Church impacting lives for Christ
  • Bring people to Christ
  • Connecting them with Church
  • Helping them grow in Christlikeness
  • So they in turn impact their areas of influence for His glory

Scripture: Luke 10:38-42

Distractions:

1. Busyness

Distraction: Just another meaningless message to keep you from paying attention to all of the issues that really matter

3. Worry

4. Conflict
Misunderstandings

5. Pleasure

Combating Distractions:

1. Live a Biblically based and Biblically controlled life

  • Conflict – Deal with it or let it go
  • Worry – choose to trust God

2. Live your life on purpose – Develop a Life Purpose Statement
“I exist to glorify God with my life and to become like Christ. To grow in a love relationship with Him and display His character to others. To carry out His mission in the world and in my areas of influence.”.

3. Determine what is important (Priorities)

4. Implement and keep focused

  • May mean saying no to self and those you love
  • Good, better, best principle

A Vision for Corner Stone in 2016

Here are the completed notes from the Sunday Morning Service January 10, 2016:

Introduction from page 25 of the book “I Will” by Thom Rainer
Statistics taken from this book

Mission:

Given by Christ
Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:47, 48; John 20:21; Acts 1:8
Purpose Statement for Corner Stone Baptist Church
Corner Stone Baptist Church exists to glorify God by bringing people into
a relationship with Him through the Lord Jesus Christ,
to unite them with the local church, to develop them to Christlike maturity, and
equip them for their ministry in the home, the church and the world.

Vision:

The Local Church:
A Place to Belong
A Place to Become

  • Christlike – Romans 8:29
  • Holiness of life
  • Love for the Father
  • Finish the Father’s work
  • Grow – 1 Peter 2:2; 2 Peter 3:18
  • Equipped – Ephesians 4:11b, 12
  • Carry out Mission – Matthew 28:18-20

Goals:

1. Increase commitment to the services

2. Develop a Community Mindset
The health of the church is directly tied to the health of groups
(Sunday school class) in the church

To be fully committed to your church you need to be in Sunday school
You may be in the larger gathering at morning worship but
you are not experiencing community with other believers

Not contributing to the health of the church
Not doing all you should be doing for your own spiritual health – we grow in community with others

Help Close the back door
5 times more likely to remain active in church
5 times more likely to be involved in ministry
5 times more likely to share their faith
5 times more likely to have a deeper knowledge of the Bible

Not involved in Sunday school
More likely to become disenchanted with your church
More likely to become a critic instead of an encourager
More than likely to drop out of your church

3. Corporate participation in witnessing and soul winning
No corporate involvement in soul winning at this time
Reflected in:

  • Professions of faith dropped by 7
  • Baptisms drooped by 3
  • New members dropped by 2
  • First time visitors dropped by 2
  • Remove those led to Christ by the pastor and at invitations (VBS), no professions of faith

This is something we as a body need to be intentional about!

  • Intentionally look for opportunities
  • Viewing people through the lens of evangelism
  • Be prepared to speak when the opportunity arises

Inviting Matters!
8 out of 10 people who do not attend church will come to church if someone invites them
4. Equipping the young – Strengthen Nursery and Children’s Church
A. Nursery
Sunday PM and Wednesday evenings nursery help needed
This ministry supports parents being able to learn and be ministered to!
Nursery incorporate short lessons
B. Sunday Primary and Junior Church
Additional help so there is a rotation monthly (Goal of 1 person serving one time in 3 months – quarterly) –

Attention Congregation!
