Quote of the Day – September 7, 2015

“To look back upon the progress of the divine kingdom upon earth is to review revival periods which have come like refreshing showers upon dry and thirsty ground, making the desert to blossom as the rose, and bringing new eras of spiritual life and activity just when the Church had fallen under the influence of the apathy of the times.”  –E. M. Bounds

To the Congregation of Corner Stone Baptist Church,

As we begin this series of Revival Meetings with Evangelist Earl Clarkson, I ask that you use this as an opportunity to really consider your relationship with God. It is so easy to go into a series of meetings with the mindset, “Oh well another week of Revival Meetings – been there and done that!”

As your pastor, I know we need revival not just in our local church body but in our nation as well. I am concerned for our nation because I believe it’s about to be truly shaken by God. We are encouraged repeatedly in Scripture to “watch.” (1 Corinthians 16:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:6) More than any time in our nation’s history, America has positioned itself for God’s judgment.

  • The graphic information that has recently arisen about what goes on in the abortion industry. America has allowed legalized abortion now for 42 years now in the face of irrefutable evidence that life begins before birth (Psalm 139:13-16)
  • The position America has taken in supporting the Iran Deal which is a major threat to Israel (Genesis 12:3)
  • The sanctioning of same sex marriage (Romans 1:26, 27)
  • The lack of accomplishment from our elected officials to bring righteous change
  • The continual turning away of our nation from God (Psalm 9:17)
  • The sin and apathy of professed Christians (2 Chronicles 7:14)

To prepare for this shaking, we need to make sure we are right with God and making wise choices in our personal lives. God’s judgment can come in many ways and take on various forms.

I encourage you to pray for another Great Awaking in this nation, but that type of revival will need to begin with individuals (that is me and that is you). We need to live authentic Christian lives and stop going through the motions. What better time than now to make lasting change!

Because of Christ and for His Glory,

Pastor Peyton Fitzgerald

Quote of the Day – September 4, 2015

“Would a God who took as much pleasure in evil as He did in good be a good God?  Would a God who did not react adversely to evil in His world be morally perfect?  Surely not.  But it is precisely this adverse reaction to evil, which is a necessary part of moral perfection, that the Bible has in view when it speaks of God’s wrath.”  –J.I. Packer

Quote of the Day – September 2, 2015

“As Pliable and Christian find themselves walking together toward the narrow gate, we see the stark contrast between the two pilgrims. One is burdened; the other is not. One is clutching a book that is a light to his path. The other is guideless. One is on the journey in pursuit of deliverance from besetting sins and rest for his soul. The other is on the journey in order to obtain future delights that temporarily dazzle his mind. One is slow and plodding because of his great weight and a sense of his own unrighteousness; the other is light-footed and impatient to obtain all the benefits of Heaven. One is in motion because his soul has been stirred up to both fear and hope; the other is dead to any spiritual fears, longings, or aspirations. One is seeking God; the other is seeking self-satisfaction. One is a true pilgrim; the other is false and fading.”  –John Bunyan

Quote of the Day – September 1, 2015

“Sweet are the promises,
Kind is the word,
Dearer far than any message man ever heard;
Pure was the mind of Christ,
Sinless I see;
He the great example is, and pattern for me.

Where He leads I’ll follow,
Follow all the way.
Where He leads I’ll follow,
Follow Jesus ev’ry day.

Sweet is the tender love
Jesus hath shown,
Sweeter far than any love that mortals have known;
Kind to the erring one,
Faithful is He;
He the great example is, and pattern for me.

Where He leads I’ll follow,
Follow all the way.
Where He leads I’ll follow,
Follow Jesus ev’ry day.

List’ to His loving words,
“Come unto Me;”
Weary, heavy-laden, there is sweet rest for thee;
Trust in His promises,
Faithful and sure;
Lean upon the Savior, and thy soul is secure.

Where He leads I’ll follow,
Follow all the way.
Where He leads I’ll follow,
Follow Jesus ev’ry day.”
