Marriage is of Divine origin<\/h3>\n<p>Marriage was a part of God\u2019s plan and He performed the<br \/>\nfirst marriage ceremony<br \/>\nGenesis 2:18 ( KJV ) 18And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man<br \/>\nshould be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.<br \/>\nGenesis 2:21-22 ( KJV ) 21And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made ahe a woman, and brought her unto the man.<\/p>\n<p>A. God established marriage to be between one man and one woman for one lifetime<br \/>\nThe book of Genesis gives God\u2019s original intent for man and his partner:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>God made them male and female &#8211; Genesis 1:18-25<\/li>\n<li>God told the man and woman to be fruitful and multiply &#8211; Genesis 1:28<\/li>\n<li>God made them distinct, unique, different to complement one another, including sexually \u2013 Genesis 1:28, 2:24<\/li>\n<li>God was pleased with His creation \u2013 Genesis 1:31<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sexual relations outside of marriage is sin: Hebrews 13:4, 1 Cor. 6:18-7:2<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pre-marital, Extra- marital, Homosexual, Incestuous<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>B. God established marriage for procreation<br \/>\nGenesis 1:28 \u2013 \u201cGod said unto them, be fruitful and multiply\u201d<\/p>\n<p>C. God established marriage for companionship<br \/>\nGenesis 2:18a \u2013 \u201cThe Lord God said, it is not good for man to be alone\u201d<\/p>\n<p>D. God established marriage for completeness<br \/>\nGenesis 2:18b \u2013 \u201cI will make him an help meet for him\u201d<br \/>\nOne who would complete and complement<\/p>\n<h3>2. Marriage is a picture of Christ\u2019s relationship to the church &#8211; Ephesians 5:22-29<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Christ\u2019s relationship with the church is one of the churches submission to Christ \u2013 vs. 22-24<\/li>\n<li>Christ\u2019s relationship with the church is a loving relationship \u2013 vs.25<\/li>\n<li>Christ\u2019s relationship with the church is a giving relationship \u2013 vs.25b<br \/>\nChrist gave everything He had including His own life for the sake of the church<\/li>\n<li>Christ\u2019s relationship with the church is a sanctifying relationship \u2013 vs.26<br \/>\nBelievers are to be sanctified (set a-part to Christ) and cleansed (from sin in their lives) Husband &amp; wife set-apart to one another, pursuing godliness together<\/li>\n<li>Christ\u2019s relationship with the church is a secure and lasting relationship \u2013 vs.27<\/li>\n<li>Christ\u2019s relationship with the church is a nourishing and cherishing relationship \u2013 vs. 29<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>3. Marriage is meant to be a lifelong commitment<\/h3>\n<p>Matthew 19:4-6 ( KJV ) 4And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh.<br \/>\nWhat therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Genesis 2:24b &#8211; \u201cThey shall be one flesh\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Matthew 19:6 \u2013 \u201cWhat therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Malachi 2:16 \u2013 God hates divorce<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Divorce only comes as a result of sin and the harness of human hearts<\/p>\n<h3>4. Marriage is an opportunity to express the love of Christ\u00a0to one another<\/h3>\n<p>God\u2019s Word speaks of love in 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8a (ESV)<br \/>\n\u201cLove is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful, it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.\u201d<br \/>\nDescription of love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Patient<\/li>\n<li>Kind<\/li>\n<li>Envies not<\/li>\n<li>Does not brag<\/li>\n<li>Not arrogant<\/li>\n<li>Never rude<\/li>\n<li>Does not want its own way<\/li>\n<li>Not irritated or angered in personal offence<\/li>\n<li>Devoted to truth<\/li>\n<li>Protects, believes, hopes and endures<\/li>\n<li>Lasting and has permanence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Love \u2013<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sacrificial \u2013 giving of ourselves<\/li>\n<li>Unconditional \u2013 He loved the church as it was<\/li>\n<li>Purposefully &#8211; Love depends on the one who chooses to love<\/li>\n<li>Not based on attractiveness, merit or the response of the one loved<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>5. Marriage Involves Work<\/h3>\n<p>A. Giving God His rightful place in your marriage<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarriage Take Three\u201d B.A.S. \u00a9 Dickson 1984<br \/>\nMarriage takes three to be complete. It\u2019s not enough for two to meet. They must be united in love. By loves creator, God above. A marriage that follows God\u2019s plan takes more than a woman and man.<br \/>\nIt needs a oneness that can be only from Christ \u2013 Marriage takes three.<\/p>\n<p>B. Managing expectations<\/p>\n<p>C. Properly dealing with conflict<\/p>\n<p>D. Being intentional about affection and sexual intimacy<\/p>\n<p>E. Prioritizing meaningful communication<br \/>\n\u201cMany marriage counselors say that the number one problem in marriage is poor communication\u201d<\/p>\n<p>F. Maintaining integrity in the relationship<br \/>\nDishonesty \/ Deceit \u2013 Ephesians 4:25<br \/>\n\u201cThe act of lying is much more damaging than the things that are being lied about\u201d<br \/>\nLying and deceit break down all certainty<br \/>\nDon\u2019t underestimate the power of deception on a relationship<br \/>\nCouples deceive one another in many ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Finances<\/li>\n<li>Spending<\/li>\n<li>Failures<\/li>\n<li>Feelings<\/li>\n<li>Resentment of things not dealt with<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Deception is one thing that is hard to work through because it denies the problem<br \/>\nCouples often live out their lives with falsehood trying to protect and save a relationship, all the while destroying the chance of a real intimate relationship<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are the completed notes from the Sunday AM Service February 14, 2016: Scripture: Hebrews 13:4 1.
