The Establishment of the Bible\u2019s Authority<\/h3>\n<p>A. The Bible claims to be no ordinary book, but claims to be the Word of God.<br \/>\nPhrases such as \u201cThus saith the Lord\u201d or \u201cGod spake these words\u201d appears over 2,000 times in the OT<br \/>\nIn the NT \u2013<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 Timothy 3:16 \u201cAll scripture is given by inspiration of God\u201d<\/li>\n<li>2 Peter 1:20, 21\u201cThe prophecy came no in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit\u201d<\/li>\n<li>1 Thessalonians 2:13 \u201cWhen ye received the Word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but, as it is in truth, the Word of God\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Galatians 1:11, 12 \u201cThe gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the Bible is not God\u2019s Word, it is no longer a good book, but a lying book.<\/p>\n<p>Why Believe the Bible is the Word of God? (Outside of the fact that it claims to be)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Manuscript Support (Manuscript \u2013 a handwritten copy of scripture)\n<ol>\n<li>Quantity and date of manuscripts<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Archaeology<\/li>\n<li>Scientific Accuracy of Scripture<\/li>\n<li>Fulfilled Prophecies of Scripture- Isaiah 48:3-5<\/li>\n<li>The testimony of Jesus to the Scriptures<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Supporting Scripture:<br \/>\nMatthew 4:3-10; Matthew 5:18; Luke 24:27; John 5:39, 45-47; John 17:17<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In His recorded words, He referenced 14 OT books<\/li>\n<li>Jesus quoted from the OT<\/li>\n<li>He believed the history of the people and events recorded in the OT<\/li>\n<li>Jesus informed the Pharisees that they erred \u201cnot knowing the scriptures\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Jesus used the Scriptures as His weapon of choice against the devil<\/li>\n<li>Jesus anticipated the NT writings \u2013John 14:26; 16:12-15<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>B. Scripture is God breathed \u2013 2 Timothy 3:16a<br \/>\nLit. \u201cGod Breathed\u201d or \u201cBreathed out by God\u201d<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When Scripture speaks, God speaks<\/li>\n<li>The authority behind the Bible is God Himself \u2013 God\u2019s Word<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>2. The Acceptance of the Bible\u2019s Authority- 2 Tim. 3:16b<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Doctrine \u2013 Tell us what to believe<\/li>\n<li>Reproof \u2013 Tells us what is wrong<\/li>\n<li>Correction \u2013 Tells us how to correct the wrong<\/li>\n<li>Instruction in righteousness \u2013 Tells us how to live<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>God\u2019s Word provides guidance \u2013 Psalm 119:105<br \/>\nThe Word of God provides comfort \u2013 Psalm 119:50<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Key Statement: Since the Scriptures are God\u2019s Word, they inherently possess His authority as His speaking (Practical Christian Theology \u2013 Floyd H. The Perversion of the Bible\u2019s Authority<\/h3>\n<p>1 Timothy 4:1 &#8211; Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;<\/p>\n<p>When?<br \/>\nLatter times \u2013 the period from the first coming of Christ until His return<\/p>\n<p>What?<br \/>\nSome shall depart from the faith<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Depart \u2013 falling away from an original position<\/li>\n<li>Apostasy \u2013 Falling away from the truth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Doctrines of Demons: Teaching that originates from demons<\/h4>\n<p>1- Evolution \u2013 Genesis 1, 2<br \/>\nSupporting Scripture:<br \/>\nPsalm 19:1; Psalm 148:4-6; Isaiah 40:28; John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:16; Acts 17:24, 25; Romans 1:20; Hebrews 11:3; Revelation 4:11<\/p>\n<p>2- Homosexuality, transgender, bisexuality<br \/>\nSupporting Scripture: Genesis 19:1-25; Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans 1:26, 27; 1Corinthians 6:9-10; 1Timothy 1:9, 10<\/p>\n<p>3- Sexual immorality (accepted as a way for life) Co-inhabitation is a way of life<br \/>\nSupporting Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:18; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; Hebrews 13:4<br \/>\nSexual Sin:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grieves the Holy Spirit<\/li>\n<li>Displays a graphic self-centeredness<\/li>\n<li>Dishonors those made in God\u2019s image<\/li>\n<li>Violates God\u2019s plan for marriage<\/li>\n<li>Total opposite love which is a fruit of the Spirit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4- Abortion \u2013 Psalm 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:5<br \/>\n5- Denial of the Deity of Christ \u2013 John 14:9<br \/>\n6- Denial of the resurrection \u2013 1 Corinthians 15:3-8<br \/>\n7- Denial of eternal punishment in Hell \u2013 Luke 16:23, 24<br \/>\n8- Denial of Scripture<br \/>\n9- Reinterpret the Bible<br \/>\n10- Compromise with sin<br \/>\n11- Toleration of sin in the church<br \/>\n12- No need for repentance<br \/>\n13- Get to heaven by your own self-worth and good works<\/p>\n<p>2 Timothy 4:3, 4 &#8211; For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.<\/p>\n<p>Not endure sound doctrine<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>People becoming intolerant of the confronting, demanding preaching of God\u2019s Word<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Driven by their own lusts<\/li>\n<li>Desiring preaching and teaching that offer them God\u2019s blessings apart from repentance \u00a0(Pleasant sensations that leave them feeling good about themselves)<\/li>\n<li>People will want what they want to hear not what they need to hear<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ears tickled<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wanting to hear what is culturally acceptable<\/li>\n<li>People will have an itch to be entertained but not challenged with Biblical truth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Turn away from the truth<\/p>\n<p>See Jude 3 &#8211; Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.<\/p>\n<h3>In Closing<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Corner Stone Statement of Faith<\/span><br \/>\nThe Holy Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God. \u00a0The Bible is our sole and final authority for faith and practice.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>George Washington (1st President) \u2013<br \/>\n\u201cIt is impossible to rightly govern the world without the Bible.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What authority does the Bible, the Word of God have in your life?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>None<\/li>\n<li>Selective<\/li>\n<li>Partial<\/li>\n<li>Complete<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here are the completed noted from the Sunday Morning Worship Service May 22, 2016: Scripture: Jeremiah 30:1-3 1.
