{"id":158,"date":"2015-07-20T16:13:00","date_gmt":"2015-07-20T16:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.csbcva.org\/?p=158"},"modified":"2015-07-20T16:13:00","modified_gmt":"2015-07-20T16:13:00","slug":"backsliding-from-a-church-pew","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.csbcva.org\/?p=158","title":{"rendered":"Backsliding from a Church Pew"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Announcements:<\/h3>\n<p>-This week is camp week for our students. \u00a0Please pray for God to work in the lives of our young people that they might glorify Him.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Here are the completed notes from the morning service July 19, 2015<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Scripture:<\/strong> \u00a0Colossians 2:6-8, Proverbs 14:14a<\/p>\n<h3>Characteristics of Backsliding from a Church Pew:<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Attends church but it&#8217;s about religion rather than about a relationship with Jesus<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sitting in church with unconfessed sin in your life<\/li>\n<li>Little to no pursuit of God outside the four walls of this building<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>&#8220;IT&#8217;S ALL ABOUT A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS!&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. \u00a0Attendance at church is characterized by inconsistency and unfaithfulness &#8211; Hebrews 10:25<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An essential to spiritual growth &#8211; I Peter 2:2<\/li>\n<li>An important aspect of personal accountability<\/li>\n<li>Believers are equipped for ministry at church &#8211; See Ephesians 4:11b, 12<\/li>\n<li>Scriptural Command &#8211; Hebrews 10:24, 25<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3. \u00a0Giving to the Lord is minimal, sporadic, or not at all<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Proverbs 3:9\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Honor&#8221; &#8211; Giving is an act of honoring the Lord with what He has provided you<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Firstfruits&#8221; &#8211; Of all thy increase<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>I Corinthians 16:2\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Upon <strong>the first day of the week<\/strong> let every one of you lay by him in store, <strong>as God hath prospered him<\/strong>, that there be no gatherings when I come.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The first day of the week&#8221; &#8211; Sunday (systematic giving)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;As God has prospered&#8221; &#8211; proportionate giving<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Malachi 3:8-10\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Tithe&#8221; &#8211; 10%<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Offerings&#8221; &#8211; additional giving<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;This whole nation&#8221; &#8211; Tithe was what was required of Israel under the OT Law<\/li>\n<li>Robbing God &#8211; not to tithe was robbing God and SIN<\/li>\n<li>Blessing &#8211; Obeying God in tithes and offerings resulted in blessings \/ Robbing God resulted in a curse<\/li>\n<li>See I Corinthians 10:11: \u00a0&#8220;Now all these things <strong>happened unto them for examples<\/strong>: and they are written <strong>for our admonition<\/strong>, upon whom the ends of the world are come.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>II Corinthians 9:6, 7\n<ul>\n<li>What we reap is dependent upon what we sow<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Luke 6:38\n<ul>\n<li>Give and it shall be given unto you<\/li>\n<li>This is a natural part of life as a believer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Matthew 6:19-21\n<ul>\n<li>Avoid materialism &#8211; &#8220;treasures upon earth&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Where your treasure is there will your heart be also<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>II Corinthians 8:1-5\n<ul>\n<li>Example of the Macedonia churches<\/li>\n<li>Their condition &#8211; in a great trial of affliction, deep poverty<\/li>\n<li>Their sacrificial giving &#8211; riches of their liberality, giving beyond their power<\/li>\n<li>The relationship &#8211; first gave themselves to the Lord<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Taken from Corner Stone By-Laws:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have you read and are you in agreement with our Doctrinal Statement, Constitution, and By-Laws?<\/li>\n<li>Are you willing to give of your time, resources, gifts, and abilities for the furtherance of the ministry of this church?<\/li>\n<li>Are you willing to be held accountable by the members of this local church?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4. \u00a0Spiritual growth is dormant not growing in knowledge or developing in Christian maturity &#8211; I Peter 2:2<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>II Peter 3:18 &#8211; How much closer are you to the Lord than last year at this time?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5. \u00a0Service is stagnate or non-existant &#8211; I Peter 4:10, 11<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>6. \u00a0Not taking God and His Word seriously<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>7. \u00a0God and obedience to Him is just not a priority &#8211; Matthew 6:33<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Law of Desire &#8211;
