It is first above everything else because who you are and who you will become flow out of your intimacy with Him.&#8221; -Charles Stanley<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMake your ultimate goal your own personal relationship with Him\u201d -Oswald Chambers<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Scripture: Luke 10:38-42; John 12:1-8<\/p>\n<p>Supporting Passages:<br \/>\nJames 4:8- Draw near to God and He will draw near to you\u201d<br \/>\nJeremiah 29:13 &#8211; And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.<\/p>\n<p>Intimacy Defined: Closeness, the experience of really knowing and being know by another person<\/p>\n<p>Scripture teaches that it is we, not God who determines the degree of intimacy we experience with Him<\/p>\n<p>Everything in our Christian life and service flows from our relationship with God<\/p>\n<p>How do we know that God wants an intimate relationship with us?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He created human beings with relationship in mind &#8211; Genesis 1:26; 3:8<\/li>\n<li>He provided a way for us to spend eternity with Him through Christ \u2013 John 3:16, 17<\/li>\n<li>He chose to make us the dwelling place of His Spirit \u2013 John 14:17; 1 Corinthians 6:19<\/li>\n<li>He encourages us to pray and read His Word \u2013 Philippians 4:6; Joshua 1:8<\/li>\n<li>He says repeatedly in scripture, \u201cI love you\u201d \u2013 John 3:16; Romans 5:8; Ephesians 2:4; John 17:23 \u201cThou hast loved them, as thou hast loved me\u201d<\/li>\n<li>His greatest commandment is for us to love Him \u2013 Matthew 22:37<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>The Privilege of Intimacy\n<ol>\n<li>Object of our intimacy \u2013 Infinite God\n<ol>\n<li>Self-existent \u2013 Self-caused, no origin (Exodus 3:14)<\/li>\n<li>Infinite \u2013 Limitless (Jeremiah 23:24; 1 Kings 8:27)<\/li>\n<li>Eternal \u2013 Everlasting, always was, always is, always will be (Deut. 33:27)<\/li>\n<li>Incomprehensible \u2013 No one can remotely understand and comprehend God (Isaiah 55:8)<\/li>\n<li>Immutable \u2013 Unchanging (Malachi 3:6)<\/li>\n<li>Omniscient \u2013 All knowing (Psalm 139:3)<\/li>\n<li>Omnipresent \u2013 Everywhere present (Psalm 139:7)<\/li>\n<li>Omnipotent \u2013 All powerful (Revelation 19:6)<\/li>\n<li>Holy \u2013 Separate, set-apart, absolute purity (Isaiah 6:3; 1 Peter 1:16)<\/li>\n<li>Glorious &#8211; Weighted down with brilliance, brightness, radiance (Psalm 8:1)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Access to the Throne (access to God Himself)\n<ol>\n<li>Hebrews 4:14-16<\/li>\n<li>Matthew 27:50, 51 \u2013 Veil of the Temple torn<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Acceptance with God\n<ol>\n<li>Ephesians 1:6 &#8211; To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.<\/li>\n<li>In the death of Christ, provision is made for a cleansing so deep, so radical, so continuous that a believer can walk with God in unbroken communion and deepening fellowship.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Indwelling Holy Spirit\n<ol>\n<li>While on earth, Jesus was geographically limited &#8211; Our Lord\u2019s departure from earth made possible a deeper, more constant intimacy with Him through the Holy Spirit<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe great business of the Holy Spirit is to stand behind the scenes and make Jesus real\u201d &#8211; According to Dr. A. B. Simpson<\/li>\n<li>I Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God\u2019s.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Discipline of Intimacy\n<ol>\n<li>Time\n<ol>\n<li>It\u2019s not if you have time, but will you make time?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Solitude\n<ol>\n<li>Matthew 6:6 &#8211; But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.<\/li>\n<li>Alone with Him in His presence<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Drawing near \u2013 James 4:8\n<ol>\n<li>Communion with God that is close and real<\/li>\n<li>Prayer\n<ol>\n<li>\u201cThe primary point of prayer is not to get something, but to know someone.\u201d \u2013David Platt<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Scripture Reading\n<ol>\n<li>\u201cThere is an inseparable relationship between your affection for Christ and your affection for the Scripture.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Listening and responding<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Focus\n<ol>\n<li>Intimacy grows out of a deepening revelation of the divine character<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Moment by Moment Walk\n<ol>\n<li>Walking in the Spirit \u2013 Galatians 5:16\n<ol>\n<li>Walk is a term for daily living<\/li>\n<li>To walking in the Spirit will require a walk-in accordance with the Word the Spirit has inspired (See Colossians 3:15)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Embrace of Intimacy\n<ol>\n<li>\u201cBe absolutely His\u201d &#8211; Oswald Chambers<\/li>\n<li>Decision of the will\n<ol>\n<li>Our wills have a responsibility of choosing<\/li>\n<li>The Law of Desire: \u201cWe do what we do because we want what we want.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Ordering of priorities\n<ol>\n<li>Passion: \u201cAn intense desire that saturates every aspect of life and compels us to pursue its object\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Consistent Pursuit\n<ol>\n<li>Daily drawing near<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Intentional Trust\n<ol>\n<li>Trust is the heart of intimacy<\/li>\n<li>Psalms 73:28 &#8211; But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Product of Intimacy\n<ol>\n<li>Deepening knowledge of God\n<ol>\n<li>An experience of intimacy with Christ will only feed the flames to know Him still better<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Heightened sensitivity to sin\n<ol>\n<li>\u201cThe closer we are to God, the more the slightest sin will cause us deep sorrow\u201d -R.C. Sproul<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Experience of His presence<\/li>\n<li>Radiance from His glory \u2013 Exodus 34:29\n<ol>\n<li>Peace<\/li>\n<li>Joy<\/li>\n<li>Contentment<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Elevated desire to please Him\n<ol>\n<li>\u201cEffective ministry to people grows out of intimate experiences with God\u201d -Jerry Bridges<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Obstruction of intimacy\n<ol>\n<li>An Impure Heart\n<ol>\n<li>A pure heart is one in which no known, conscious, unjudged sin is tolerated and entertained<\/li>\n<li>Psalm 24:3, 4 &#8211; Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?
