What is it about? \/ Should I partake of it?<\/em><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Scripture: \u00a0Luke 22:7-20<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Introduction<\/h3>\n<p>1st &#8211; A look at what the Lord&#8217;s Supper is not:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is not a religious ritual<\/li>\n<li>It is not Transubstantiation &#8211; The intended turning of the break and wine of the Lord&#8217;s Supper into the actual and real body and blood of Christ after a prayer by the priest.<\/li>\n<li>It is not a means of earning God&#8217;s favor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sacrament<\/span> &#8211; Implies that the act itself conveys grace to the believer<\/p>\n<p><em>There is nothing we can do to earn God&#8217;s grace!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>G &#8211; God&#8217;s<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>R &#8211; Riches<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>A &#8211; At<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>C &#8211; Christ&#8217;s<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>E &#8211; Expense<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0I. \u00a0What is the Lord&#8217;s Supper about?<\/h3>\n<h4>A. \u00a0A Church Ordinance<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ordinance<\/span> &#8211; A decree or command given by the Lord Jesus Himself<\/p>\n<h4>B. \u00a0An act of Obedience<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Luke 22:19 &#8220;<em>This do<\/em>&#8220;<\/li>\n<li>This is a command from the lips of the Lord Himself<\/li>\n<li>Not an option for the believer<\/li>\n<li>Scripture: I Corinthians 11:23-24\n<ul>\n<li>Verse 23 &#8211; Very good possibility that this letter was written before any of the Gospels; therefore, this would be the first Biblical record of the institution of the Lord&#8217;s Supper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>C. \u00a0A symbolic picture of the death of Christ (vs. 23-26)<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<em>For you<\/em>&#8221; (verse 24) &#8211; Sacrificial death<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>D. \u00a0A memorial remembering the Lord&#8217;s death (vs. 24-25)<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<em>In remembrance of Me<\/em>&#8221; (verse 24, 25)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>E. \u00a0An opportunity for deep spiritual meditation on the work of Christ (vs. 24-25)<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>To remember is to go back in one&#8217;s mind and recapture as much of the reality and significance of the event or experience as one possible can.<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the heart without just going through the motions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>F. \u00a0A looking forward to Christ&#8217;s return (vs. 26b)<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<em>Till He come<\/em>&#8221; (verse 26b)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>G. \u00a0An opportunity to examine yourself (vs. 28)<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Take caution (verse 29-32)<\/li>\n<li>Verse 28 &#8211; &#8220;<em>Let a man examine himself<\/em>&#8220;<\/li>\n<li>Inwardly &#8211; heart attitude, unconfessed \/ unrepented of sin<\/li>\n<li>Outwardly &#8211; relationship with others, unforgiveness, division<\/li>\n<li>Upwardly &#8211; Relationship with God<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>II. \u00a0Should I partake of the Lord&#8217;s Supper?<\/h3>\n<h4>A. \u00a0Are you a believer?<\/h4>\n<h4>B. \u00a0Are you a believer walking in obedience to the Lord?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>The Lord&#8217;s Supper is the most dangerous service in the church (verse 29-33)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Unworthily&#8221; &#8211; ritualistically, indifferently, with a bitter spirit, harboring sin or unforgiveness, with an unrepentant heart<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>C. \u00a0Are you a believer willing to deal with sin in your life?<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>This is the time to take action (verse 29-34)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<em>If we would judge ourselves, we will not be judged<\/em>&#8221; (verse 31)<\/li>\n<li>The Lord gives believers a choice &#8211; they may either exercise their own judgment upon themselves or they may await God&#8217;s discipline\n<ul>\n<li>Confession of sin<\/li>\n<li>Repentance (a change of mind = a change of conduct)<\/li>\n<li>Restoration with another<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Quote of the Week: \u00a0&#8220;No sin, no matter how momentarily pleasurable, comforting, or habitual, is worth missing what God has for us.&#8221;
