Reasons We Do What We Do – Youth Sunday

Speaker: Trevor Moore (Student Ministry Service)

Opening Statement:

People think there is lots of don’ts in the Bible and Christian life; however, in reality there are so many dos.
As believers God’s Word gives clear direction as to what we need to do and why!

Reasons We Do What We Do

Scripture: James 4:17

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

The first thing we will consider is – What we do
What we do as a local church and what we do as individuals!

First, what we do as a Local Church

1-Meeting together – Hebrews 10:24, 25
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

  • Learn
  • Worship
  • Pray
  • Encourage
  • Challenge

2-Reach out together
We can do more together than apart
We have different gifts and abilities

  • Singing
  • Teaching
  • Art work
  • Repairs
  • Building/ painting

Second, what we do as an Individual Believer – 1 Timothy 4:7, 8

But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come

As believers, we have spiritual disciplines or we could say spiritual exercises in order to be godly

1-Daily time with God (One on one time with God)

  • Bible reading
  • Prayer

2-Scripture Memory

Psalm 119:9, 11 – Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

  • Have answers from Scripture readily available
  • Helps us turn away from sin

James 4:7 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

3-Serving
Impacting the lives of others

The second thing we will consider is Reasons why we do it

A. We have been forgiven – Ephesians 1:7

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

If you are not sure about your relationship with God, you really need to make absolutely sure where you are at with Him!

B. A Relationship with Jesus – Mark 12:30

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

What we do is an overflow of our relationship with Christ!

C. There is a need

Kind of needs:

  • People need to hear about Christ – Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth
  • People need to see an authentic example of Christ
  • Sin is increasing, the world is becoming darker, Christian’s are to be lights in the midst of darkness – Matthew 5:16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
  • We need to live so we can say, “Follow me as I follow Christ”
  • If you are not living the life yourself be careful what you say!

D.God want us to

  • Be faithfully involved in church
  • Reach out together
  • Spend time with Him
  • Hide His Word in our heart
  • Serve Him

In Closing:
The title of this message – Reasons We Do What We Do
My question for you today is are you doing?

Our opening Scripture said,
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

2015 Amherst County Christmas Parade

Corner Stone Baptist Church entered two floats in this year’s Ray Puckett / Amherst County Lions Christmas Parade.  Many thanks to all in our church who made this possible spending hours building the floats, organizing everyone, and especially for the youth who gave out candy and information about our church to those in the audience.  GREAT JOB CORNER STONE – AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF OUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS HERE IN AMHERST COUNTY!
